Modern Sky UK: 2018 In Review

As the knitted Christmas jumpers become ever more present, and the painful realisation that you haven’t done ANY Christmas shopping sinks in, we thought it was about time to reflect on the crazy year that we have had here at Modern Sky UK. We’ve had plenty of new releases earning nearly 6.5 million Spotify streams, some new signings and some huge stuff going on behind the scenes. To celebrate our momentous year we’ve compiled a run through of all our achievements of 2018.

 

 

January

 

  • 19th – SPINN kick things off for the new year with their new track ‘After Dark’

  • 16th – Beyond Average release new single ‘The Mula’

  • 4th – The Slow Readers Club release their 3rd studio album ‘Build A Tower’ making it to number 18 in the UK Album Charts [Read the review]

 

  • 6th – Beyond Average release their debut EP ‘Perfecting The Graft’

 

June

 

  • 12th – The Blinders release ‘L’Etat C’est Moi’. The track is later made Huw Stephens Track Of The Week on BBC Radio 1 & added to Spotify’s ‘Hot New Bands’ playlist

  • 13th – We are proud to release our first track with SPQR ‘Blood Pump’

 

  • 28th – The Blinders play the main stage at Kendal Calling 2018

 

August

 

  • 3rd – SPINN release ‘Shallow’

 

  • 6th – The video for The Blinders’ ‘Brave New World’ premieres on Clash Magazine

 

  • 21st – The Tea Street Band release new single ‘Feel It’

 

  • 24th/25th – The Blinders steal the show at Reading & Leeds’ BBC Introducing Stage earning ‘Brave New World’ the title of BBC Introducing’s Track Of The Week

 

September

 

  • 14th – The Tea Street Band release ‘Marseille Blues’, the new single

 

  • 21st – Josh Goddard releases new single ‘Roll With Me’

  • 1st – The Blinders’ ‘Columbia’ is chosen as BBC Radio 6 Music’s Album Of The Day

 

  • 15th – The Blinders embark on their nationwide ‘Columbia’ Tour with support from Calva Louise, playing sell out shows in Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool, Birmingham and more…[Read the review]

 

  • 19th – The Tea Street Band release ‘Only Love’ the final single from their new album

 

  • 19th – Josh Goddard releases another new track ‘Hear My Cry’

 

  • 21st – SPINN head to Japan for two special Tokyo gigs

 

November

 

  • 2nd – Josh Goddard releases his debut EP ‘Roll With It’

 

  • 8th – SPINN release ‘Bliss’, their 7th new track of the year! It is later added to Spotify’s ‘The Indie List’, ‘Hot New Bands’ and ‘All New All Now’ playlists [Read more]

  • 10th – The Tea Street Band take their new record on the road, selling out Liverpool, Leeds and forcing a venue upgrade in Manchester

 

  • 9th – Beyond Average release new single ‘The Re Up’

 

  • 16th – Red Rum Club release new track ‘Would You Rather Be Lonely?’ ahead of debut album due January 11th 2019 [Read more]

 

  • 19th – We are proud to announce our latest signing Abbie Ozard

 

  • 22nd – SPQR release new single ‘Slowly’

 

December

 

  • 6th – Calva Louise put out our last release of the year ‘Tug Of War’ ahead of their debut album due February 1st 2019

 

  • 8th – The Slow Readers Club finish 2018 in style, selling out shows in Glasgow, London and Manchester

 

  • 13th – Red Rum Club release new single ‘Angeline’ from their upcoming album

 

  • 15th – SPINN play a sold out Christmas Party show with Bad Sounds in London

 

  • Abbie Ozard gets us in the Christmas spirit with her cover of the 1994 Christmas number one ‘Stay Another Day’ which plays on BBC 6 Music

 

  • 22nd – SPINN host a special Christmas party DJ set at Sound, Liverpool

 

  • 31st – The Blinders round of the year by playing Kendal Calling’s New Year’s Eve party alongside Everything Everything and Tom Grennan in Victoria Warehouse, Manchester

 

 

 

Wow…even we are a bit exhausted after all of that, but it has been a pleasure to work with so many great artists over the past 12 months and to help them reach their full potential. However, we are far from done! There are plenty of exciting plans in the making here at Modern Sky UK including some huge support slots, headline tours and brand new albums. So, have a good festive period and we’ll see you back here in 2019.
