Josh Goddard found his first love Motown before he had even picked up an instrument.
At a young age Josh was introduced to his main influences. Ray Charles, Sam Cooke and Otis Redding records would be played throughout his childhood and have lived with him to this point.
As Goddard began to gain an understanding of songwriting, he started his career in the fertile Mancunion scene.
Driven by the ambition that Josh is known for, as a young musician he would play as often as he could to as many, and to as few, people as possible.
After working on a new direction, Goddard has returned with a mature sound.
Of his new sound, Josh says: “My music harps back to the sound of my main influences. They all took the pain they were feeling and turned it into music, sometimes sad sounding, but often quite beautiful. That’s what I am trying to do.”
Those early memories of music from his youth, have influenced Josh to create his own sound. This new sound sits him amongst modern contemporaries like Paolo Nutini, Leon Bridges, and John Newman.
2018 will see the launch of Josh’s new direction with the single “Sunday Sun” which will feature amongst other releases.
In his short time as a solo artist, Josh has played on stages at Kendal Calling and Festival Number 6. An unreleased track titled, ‘Oh Darlin’, also featured on an advert for clothing brand, Jack Wills.
